• The Macquarie Panic Early Intervention Project: My current research is about early intervention for panic disorder. It is based on the idea that it may be more efficient to get good treatment to people soon after they first experience a panic attack instead of waiting for the problem to become chronic. The study will also test stepped care or the idea of beginning with less intensive interventions like self-help materials and moving on to more intensive interventions if these are not successful.
• In the past I have been involved in projects which studied treatment of drug dependence including smoking, the causes of anxiety disorders, and avoidant personality disorder.
• The Benzodiazepine Dependence Questionnaire (BDEPQ).

My Clinical Work

I am registered as a psychologist in New South Wales (PS0007625) and am a member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society. I have worked as a psychologist in a number of settings including

• A model program for problem drinking at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of New South Wales (1992)
• A model program for anxiety disorders, the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety Disorders where I ran the panic disorder and agoraphobia treatment programs (1993 to 1997). As part of this work in anxiety disorders I helped the Evesham Clinic establish their anxiety disorders program.
