Cultural Influences on Emotion
You are invited to participate in a study of emotional communication in marriage. The research study you are about to participate in is concerned with the experience and expression of emotions in marriage within the context of two different cultures, Australian and Indian culture.
The study is being conducted by Kala Clory (phone 0406-344-189, kala.clory@students.mq.edu.au) to meet the requirements of the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. The project is being supervised by Dr. Julie Fitness (phone 02-9850-8015) in the Department of Psychology at Macquarie University.
Participation in this study will require you to answer questions related to personal aspects of your relationship with your spouse. This study focuses on both positive and negative emotions. If this research raises personal or relationship concerns which you would like to discuss with a counsellor, the following possibilities are offered:
a) Lifeline – 131114 (telephone counselling)
b) Rod Power Psychology Clinic – 9850-8000 (face to face counselling)
c) Relationships Australia branch – 1-300-364-277(they will connect you to the nearest office in your area)

This questionnaire is for couples only, who are Anglo and living in Australia.
You will find the questionnaire online which will take approximately 20 - 30 minutes to complete. EACH SPOUSE must complete a separate questionnaire. When you are filling out your responses, please do not discuss or compare answers with anyone including your spouse, but work independently. This is for purposes of obtaining purely individual responses.
Remember, your participation is voluntary and you may decide not to continue to answer the questionnaire at any time without penalty. All your responses in this study are strictly confidential. Your responses will be linked to the responses of your spouse for purposes of keeping track of couple data; thus please make sure you answer question #1 correctly which will ask for both you and your spouse’s date of birth. Your responses to the questionnaire will be anonymous, therefore, your privacy is ensured.
In appreciation of your time given to this research, you may include your e-mail address at the end of the survey to receive movie tickets. A summary of the research results will be available in approximately six months time. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the report, please e-mail the chief investigator.
